Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Harris is the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for health care, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The attention of the nation was drawn by her sharp questions of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
